Sony Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo? Confused

Hi all, I got a Sony Ericsson W800i to replace my stolen Samsung D600 and i am very impressed with the phone, especially the pictures and mp3 player however, im looking for a good source of Sony Memory sticks for this phone, which ones can it accept and which sizes? I dont mind spending a bit of money on a good size card as long as it will definately work, any ideas? Thanks

P.S. im very confused with sonys memory sticks what the difference between a Duo and a Pro Duo?

Any Memory Stick, no matter the if it is Duo or standard, over 128MB is a Pro card.

All non-pro card will work in Pro compatible devices. Pro card will not work in non-pro devices.

I think just about everything that can take a Memory stick that is about 3 years old and newer is Pro.

I just got a 2gig Memory Stick Pro Duo off ebay (Buy Now) for £35 including postage. It's a Sony as opposed to a SanDisk too. very nice.

You do pay a premium for the larger capacity, but there are plenty of them out there. Actually i think they have dropped about £20 since i looked a couple of weeks ago for a friend at work. Works out at about £102 - £110. You could get 3x 2gig cards for that

To reiterate, you really don't want to be buying memory cards from ebay, they are almost entirely fakes, some more functional than others.

Indeed - Sound advice there from Dr X.

Rule of the the thumb - if it looks too good and is cheaper than what half the size it would be is - then it generally is to good to be true.

On a lighter note - Sandisk one's are great. I use them in my P800 and various other devices like camera's and stuff.

Yep, too many fakes but they're almost identical to the genuine items. Think the way to tell its a fake is to look at the way the packaging is sealed....otherwise they're perfect coppies. Even amazon were caught out.

Also, i don't think the K750i/W800 is compatible with cards bigger than 2GB

thats actually a good point. I have no idea if the K750 etc support the 4gig cards.

Just had a look at the W850 page on the SE website. For the phone spec itself it just stated Memory Stick Pro Duo support. At the bottom of the page are links to definitions of what the features mean. Clicking on "Memory Stick PRO Duo™" tels you "A mini peripheral storage device (up to 2GB) capable of storing pictures, music, applications and more."

This seems like a generic statement whenever MS Pro Duo comes up, so it might just be that they haven't updated it to take the new 4gig cards into account. Or they are not supported at all. i don't know.
