    k800 messed with my ipod

I have never had any problems with my ipod until i got SE K800i the other day. I also have K750 and I had the drivers for it already installed on pc and it worked just fine. When I got K800i I installed disc but K800i wouldnt work. I later found out that the drivers on the cd with K800 are faulty and that the existing drivers for the K750 will work. So i uninstalled the K800 software and sure enough it worked the same as the K750. Thats all well and good. But ever since, when I go to plug my ipod in itunes doesnt detect ipod, it recieves charge but nothing else. In my device manager I am getting an issue under USB Mass Storage Device (IPOD) saying Code 10 device cannont be started. I have uninstalled the driver (infact I uninstalled all the usb devices) when I plug ipod in again my pc detects the mass storage device and even says new hardware ipod found but exactly the same thing happens. Cant do anything with it. Dont know if its a windows problem, ipod software problem or motherboard driver problem. Itunes 7 as good as it is doesnt let ya install the ipod software without uninstalling itunes, something which i am not willing to do. Help

Windows likes to reinstall drivers for usb devices every time you use it in a different port for the first time, that sounds like whats happening.

Itunes sucks, uninstall it... but... if you can find the driver install files (somewhere on install cd, itunes directory, some other random directory) you can do update driver from device manager, and pointing it to those files should fix it.

My K800i and ipod work on the same computer quite successfully. But I tried installing the K800i on my laptop and it just simply did not work. You might need to reinstall Windows so you have a completely fresh start. I had the ipod / itunes installed before I installed the K800i CD, and then plugged in the phone.

I dont really want to uninstall and reinstall itunes, and certainly dont want to reinstall windows. I know if i uninstall itunes and reinstall it that i wont lose music. Will i lose playlists and other data like play counts etc? I have tried the cd I got with ipod but to no avail and tried to update the driver via device manager but it simply says cant find a better match for the driver. Itunes 7 is great apart from the fact that all the ipod software is within it and it cant be installed from outside it.

You can back up your music library including the play counts.

    You'll find the files under
My Documents > My Music > Itunes

You sound like you are after some alternative software to transfer files to and from your IPOD.

    Look no further:

Yes you have to pay a small fee to get it, but its a rather superb program. It uses windows explorer and you simply drag and drop songs into the window to commence transfer. All you need is for the drivers for the IPOD to be installed and then use this software for transfer. I have the creative version myself and its a lot better then using media player etc to transfer songs to it
