    Avi's crash my computer

Any idea why ? Every avi or wmf i play in windows media causes the picture to freeze out, but the sound keeps playing.

Mpegs work fine in windows media player and in qt thus making it stranger that they wouldnt work.

Any body know what i sohuld do / come across this problem before ?

Im not sure what forum ot put this here so moderate as you please.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Most likely it is your Codecs that have some how messed up.

Did you install one of those Codec Packs?

If so uninstall all your various codecs (DivX, Xvid etc) and then install them again one by one starting with DivX [test] then Xvix [test] etc.

make sure you get the latest versions and dont use one of those Codec Packs.

    Hope this helps...

You may still want to grab another set of codecs though, I recommend either the TKLite pack or Nemos.

I hate mucking around with codecs, why some magical solution to it all can't be made is beyond me.

Installing everything from a codec pack is a recipie for a broken media machine

For basic xvid/divx playback all you need is te old WMP (mplayer2.exe) and a universal decoder, such as ffdshow. ffdshow will play back just about everything you can think of that isn't real or quicktime.
