Corrupt system log

Hi

Been trying to fix a friends windows corrupt system.log file, I believe it was caused by an improper shutdown on the host comp that it is connected to.

Here is what I have tried


Disabling event log in services, it won't allow me and come back with a system space error(loads of space)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog

Tried changing the registry for the event log, but I get a can't change error.

The event log has to be turned off, to enable deletion of the system.log, but I can't get it disabled, any suggestions

Maybe try changing the options in System Properties \ Advanced \ Error Reporting (or Startup & Recovery Settings)

You could try safe mode or deleting the file through the recovery console

Error reporting is already disabled, it won't boot to safe mode, and it will not execute CHKDSK c: /f /r

Safe is also nono

Might try the recovery console, but have never had much success with that in the past

I just remembered that there is a program called move on boot. You can use it to delete files during the startup process. You simply tell it which files you want it to delete and then restart your computer.
