shame nVidia don't have a client but, i've just set the cpu version going, figured my computer's on pretty much 24/7 at the mo so it may as well be doing something useful

usually a work unit is a given problem that the cruncher tries to solve.

eg with seti it would be a particular part of the sky for a given part of the RF spectrum.

it crashed over night but it was on for about 12 hours I reckon. Over 1000 now. I clicked the "over 5mb file" button before bed.

So....the scoring system must be biased towards everyone's type of processor (or in my case Gpu), or I'd be up top.
Fairer this way I think.

The scoring depends on the size of the WU, and whether it has any bonuses.

You get bonus points for very demanding WU (>5mb) and even more for 'advanced methods'' (and more still for both). The advanced methods one will crash more often though, and the biggest scoring work units require Intel CPUs sadly.

Also despite opting in for big WUs, you don't neccessarily get them all the time.

edit: I suppose you're wondering why I'm not on the Hexus team.. well I started with the ATI one when they created the GPU client.. then it got warm and I didn't need an electric heater any more plus it's a bit too similar to my day job and I shouldn't really be supporting 'competitors'

My GPU seems well suited I think. The FAQ implies that the 512 mb cards do it best, so looks like I might be able to help more than I'd supposed. Prolly their system broken and I'm on 1 WU really.

My Radeon X1900 has 512 mb of uber ddr in it and according to the web site they can be up to 30x faster than the quickest P4.

but I'm sceptical myself.

I THINK the Radeon WU's are different.....i dont think they're the same as the CPU ones.

tbh the website's beyond my understanding BUT I'd love to know my PC isnt wasting it's time.

Much like the Gromacs core greatly enhanced Folding@home by a 20x to 30x speed increase via a new utilization of hardware (SSE) in PC’s, in 2006, Folding@home has developed a new streaming processor core to utilize another new generation of hardware: GPU’s with programmable floating-point capability. By writing highly optimized, hand tuned code to run on ATI X1900 class GPU’s, the science of Folding@home will see another 20x to 30x speed increase over its previous software (Gromacs) for certain applications. This great speed increase is achieved by running essentially the complete molecular dynamics calculation on the GPU; while this is a challenging software development task, it appears to be the way to achieve the highest speed improvement on GPU's.

guess I'm special, as I can do loads of work but it's only certain special stuff, so I dont score any points for it for my team

Still...it's all about team work.

It crashes a fair bit so it's only running while I'm with it working on my laptop and surfing etc.
