is there a simple program that will run on win98 that will tell me all i need to know about the spec of the computer... i have been given a big bunch of P2 and p3 computers with various spec, i need to check them all and see which ones the school will keep

Try belarc advisor, or sisoftware's sandra - they both give lots of info you'll find useful I'd say.
