Hi Folks, just had the oddest of situations occur on my machine, running Windows Vista Business;
I was RAR-ing an 8MiB folder of photos, wanting to split it into 4MiB chunks, for Emailing, but failed to realise WinRAR lets you choose the size in bytes, for some reason I assuming it was KiB, so I entered 4096, and ended up with around 2000 files sitting on my desktop!
Now, at this point Windows Explorer (quite understandably I'd say!) fell over, failing to work out how to show all these Icons I guess - so I plugged in my USB Drive and ran Filezilla off it, to get a file explorer - and used it to delete all the .rar.part00 files, restoring the number of Icons to what is was before my error.
Only, Windows Explorer still isn't playing ball, and this my current desktop arrangement;
When I rebooted (just to see if it was still falling over because it had residual 'stuff' in memory), the hard disk was thrashing for about 10mins, but I've still got what I've posted above - when I hover above any part of the taskbar, I get the busy mouse cursor, and can't click on anything on the taskbar either!
It seems very odd to me, and I can't for the life of me thing why it's doing it!
EDIT: having just restarted Portable Firefox that I was running of my USB Drive to post this, Explorer seems to have sorted itself out and I'm back to a more normal looking desktop environment!
Now...split into chunks of size 4194304 or higher, not 4096 *feels a bit thick!*
