This is a great little article which gives you an insight into the file copying problems that Vista has(had). Worth a read:

Nice read, thanks.
Would be even better if Vista tuned the type of copy mechanics based on the size of data and where it's located. Or perhaps gave advanced users the options to play with some of the parameters.
Another good point (though it was a comment on the article rather than the article itself) is that if Vista encounters a problem with a file copy you can choose to abandon the copy of that file, and carry on with the copy operation rather than just fail the entire operation. A nice feature, and not one that I'd even thought about!
Mark's stuff is always a great read though - picking up Sysinternals was one of the best things Microsoft have done in recent years in my opinion.
Speaking of which. The Sysinternals Suite was updated a few days ago. Might as well have a link to it while we're here, eh.

I use Beyond compare for that:
Beyond Compare - The file compare, folder compare and remote directory compare utility from Scooter Software
It is a programmer's diff tool, and very powerful, but one of the handy side features is that you can copy directories and their files from one place to another, and if there are any problems it just gives you a list of the files it can't process at the end while copying everything else.
It is shareware, and costs $30, so you can't realy justify it just for copying files, but it you use any of it's diff functions then it is definitely worth it, and you can get a free trial version.
