XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit?
What would you people say is best?
Vista x64 is fine, I have no issues with it. I'll be smooth as with your spec.

If you're buying a new copy of Windows and it's got to be 64 bit (and the reasons to not go 64bit are getting less and less) then Vista really is the only sensible choice for the desktop.

remember, there is no 64-bit xp. xp64 is not xp. it's server 2003 workstation edition. apps that won't run on server 2003 won't run on xp64
I went from XP 32 to Vista 32 then XP 64 (long story) and will next go to Vista 64.

XP64 was a bit of an after thought IMHO
Indeed - and basically a product without a market.
Today, x64 is suddenly important - RAM is cheap and 4gig is easily had..

If anything the software that had problems at release was more likely to be legacy than the most up to dateso is there no longer any problems running the latest software and games on it, like there was when it was released? I guess its all fixed up then

Go for home premium (reduces cost, has everything u need) and reduce it futher by going OEM.

I doubt anyone will go for XP64bit. Well anyone that knows its history anyway.
whats the verdict on XP's service pack 3?
I am running Vista 64bit + SP1 and I am very happy. no driver issues, and games are smooth as silk.
Had to turn of UAC as that was preventing some programs from working properly, but aside from that no quarms.
