Setting up dual boot Vista on XP

I have XP on my rig, but want to know what is the best process in setting up Vista for Dual booting?

I was thinking of installing straight off the installation disk onto a second hard drive. I understand Vista will setup a menu so I can select which OS to boot from after installation. Is there anything I need to do before starting installation?

Any ideas or advice grreatly appreciated.

Re: Setting up dual boot Vista on XP

Nope, just crack on with the install. As you correctly stated, Vista will manage the boot menu.

It's only doing it the other way around that is a bit different. Installing XP on a Vista machine means that XP wipes the boot menu and doesn't give you the option to boot into Vista. But it's a simple fix by installing VistaBootPro or a similar program.

Note that you don't have to install XP on a different drive either, a different partition would suffice.

Spot on - also note you can repair the Vista boot menu by booting of the install CD (if as above you installed XP after Vista and it removed the Vista boot loader).
