latest updates from MS for XP trash system

Anyone else seen any problems with the latest updates last week from MS?

Been given a PC to fix that according to the owner was working fine before last weeks MS updates. System starts booting windows, gets to the splash screen and then reboots. Does the same in safe mode.

I did a repair using windows xp install disk and everything worked fine, all accounts were available and all the customers data was recovered. I then let windows do an update and bang, back to the same problem. Did an other repair but ommited last weeks updats and the system is working fine. I am loathed to try last weeks updates again until I know which one is causing the problem.

Anyone heard of any problems?

System is a an Athlon 2000, 512Mb ram, Windows XP pro and nothing other than your standard programs loaded - office 2003, nero, itunes etc.

You'll have to do the repair again and check through the updates to see what they are and what there for to see if you can single out the problem. Or use custom install which you could just install an update at a time which will be pain until you fine the problem. I've not had any problems with my xp updates.

The "install 1 update at a time" scenario is looking like the only way to identify the problem as I can find no reference to anyone having any problems with the latest updates. Damn.

I too haven't had any problmes with the lastest updates. Thats a weird issue issue you're having.

Have you checked that it's not bringing down a driver update at the same time? I've been caught out once in a while by having a new driver turn up.

If not, is it definately a genuine copy of XP? Wouldn't surprise me if MS are starting to send out kill signals so they can sell more Vista

I'm with the op, install one update at a time. Don't somehow think that MS would be sending out kill signals to XP to sell Vista as thats not an ethical move at all.

It's a legit version of XP as far as I can see, COA is for XP Pro. No other updates showing (critical or otherwise) other than 5 from last week so tonight will be the moment of truth!
