Is it possible to remove parts of an install from a .exe

Basically, Sony Video Vegas likes to install something called sony media manager, but i never use it and just end up going to add remove programs and uninstalling it. It doesnt effect the running of the main program whatsoever, yet I cant cancel it from the main install, it just installs by itself...

SO I was just wondering if I can open up the exe and just install what I want from it?

    Thanks

What you might be able to do is run the installer, find out where the de-compressed files are stored temporarily and copy what you want from there.

You could easily kill the installer doing this though, probably best just un-installing the Media Manager instead.

if you have winrar installed, it knows some common self extracting exe types and will let you un-pack them without running the EXE.

stuff like regmon + filemon can be used to see what an exe installs. but its not a fun task.

I think you might need to do some reverse engineering. Mater best left as is

Hmmm, winrar doesnt recognise this exe.

seeing as you only have to do it once, am not sure why the effort to pose the question, unless you want to unpack other .exe's

One can never stop saying Thank You

Ok the exe does indeed unpack to a temp folder. I cancelled its auto launch install and then went to the extract folder, removed the media manager install (its a completely separate folder) and then just ran vegas setup. No Media Manager installed. yay.
