    Acronis 10 Cloning Vista 64 won't boot: winload.exe corrupted

    Hiya people,

My precious and beloved Acronis 10 Home has failed me: I can't seem to Clone my new Vista 64 hard drive.

I intend to use a WD AAKS as a boot drive, and will keep the Raptor that Vista is on at the moment (running sweetly) as a back up drive.

Everytime I use Clone Disk in Acronis 10 True Image Home, the job is done successfully but the new HDD won't boot. It comes up with this message.

    \windows\system32\winload.exe
    0xc000000e
Selected Entry Could Not Be Loaded Because The Application Is Missing Or Corrupt.

It's not missing, because if I boot of the original install and explore this new clone, the file is there.
(I DIDN'T try copying it across, though I was tempted. I was more interested in WHY it won't work)

I googled for a few days, before writing this. I've tried this procedure 6 times now, and it won't do it.

BUT... WHAT DOES WORK, is to use Acronis to make a BackUp file of the entire drive, and then use the Acronis Boot Disk to restore that backup to the drive.

That works a treat. The only issue is that it makes a perfect replica INCLUDING the size of the original version, so then I needed to use Disk Manager in Vista to resize the partition.

SO, if you've got Vista 64, and want to clone it with Acronis 10, if it wont work, make a back up, restore that back up to the new drive, and then resize.

Hope this helps people in the future. (It's the reason I've titled the thread as I have, so that Google grabs it soon)

Zak, I think it might be a version thing, as I used True Image Workstation to clone my vista business x64 to a bigger drive in my laptop and that worked fine, I think version 10 is a few versions below the current one which might be where the issue is.

TI Home 10 isn't *that* far behind the times. I have TI Home 11, and the initial release had a similar bug though, so madman may have a point. Possibly worth seeing if there's an updated build of 10 available? Minor upgrades are free, you only pay for major versions.

Failing that, even though it is an old version I'd strongly suggest logging it with Acronis tech support - I logged a few bugs with TI Corporate Workstation a couple of years back and they had fixes with me in a week or so.

I am not sure if True Image 10 is compatible with Vista, I suspect it's not fully compatible

Perhaps rather interestingly I cloned one of my Server 2008 x64 virtual machines yesterday with VMWare Converter and found that I had this *exact* issue. I've no idea why this would be the case as the source VM was offline at the time, so it's not going to be a file lock issue.

EDIT - I see that the converter has moved on from 3.0.3 to 4.0, so I should perhaps upgrade as well

It is software related, this link will explain the reasons why and a possible fix
