32 Bit Win XP on 64 bit PC?

Can you install the standard 32 bit Win XP Pro onto a nice new 64 bit Core2 Extreme PC?

I am slightly confused as I want a nice new workstation but do not want to have to run XP / Vista 64.

    Cheers

Indeed, just limits the ammount of ram you can effectively use, that is upto 3gb on 32bit XP.

Re: 32 Bit Win XP on 64 bit PC?

Is there any reason why Vista 64Bit isn't in your mind?
Its very stable now and runs pretty good.

The only time problems are occuring now are with old hardware compatibility.

Re: 32 Bit Win XP on 64 bit PC?

I don't know if it's why Butuz asks, but a common reason would be that someone owns 32-bit XP already and doesn't want to have to pay for a new OS

Personally, right now, I wouldn't be prepared to pay for Vista 64 either. I'd make do with XP, probably go for the Win7 RC when it comes out and probably upgrade to a retail Win7 when need be ..... perhaps when the RC expires (June next year, IIRC??)

Yeh thats pretty much it Saracen. Happy with XP Pro at the mo and see no real reason to upgrade. Don't need more than 4GB RAM really.

Cheers guys - that's great help!
