    Ripping Audio from DVD

Just got a Bill Bailey DVD, and would like to rip some of his songs out of it. What's the best program for this? Each song is a single chapter, but I'll need something that lets me preview before I rip.

    Thanks

i don't know of any specific audio ripping apps, everything tends to be geared towards AVI.

Bear in mind there are 3 possible DVD audio formats: AC3, DTS and LPCM. there are lots of apps that can deal with AC3, apps that know what to do with DTS are rarer and LPCM even rarer.

And, of course (as if you had to guess), music DVDs tend to use LPCM

It's a video DVD with videos of his shows on, the songs are part of the show, so it should be AC3.

if you check out the forums/sites at afterdawn or doom9, using them and guardianknot you'll get them ok

you need to rip out the chapters from the DVD, then rip the audio from the vobfiles - i remember trying to do it myself, looking for an easy way to do it - but back then no program did it specifically (not freely available anyway)

indeed. by using smartripper (or dvd decrypter) then dvd2avi, you can get the soundtrack in ac3 or dts format. don't know of a 1-step app tho
