I bought a new mouse recently, as my old one was starting to play up after about 5-6 years of solid PC gaming, not bad to be honest considering how cheap it was. Since I was very happy with my trusty old MX510 I decided to stay with Logitech and even the same shape and features of the mouse by getting a new MX518. Very happy was I when it arrived and looked brand new, plugged it in, worked flawlessly and I was happy.
Then I remember that I re-map the extra buttons for games so I can easily configure them for what I need. Now I know this may sound a little weird, but I map key strokes (for example Ctrl-Shift-1) to buttons 4-8 allowing me to map those key strokes into games that don't give options for extra keys on mice. So, with this in mind, I install SetPoint, the software that comes with the mouse.
One thing that I wasn't too interested in was the changing of the DPI on the fly, so after it's installed I change the mapping so those keys don't work like that and they work how I want. That's all OK. What the problem is is that when I load a game up, the DPI automatically changes and the mouse moves around the screen very slowly. This is starting to get on my nerves.
I've gone through probably all of the options on the SetPoint software trying to stop this, disabling game detection, giving contol of the mouse to the OS or SetPoint, changing the game mode settings but nothing stops the DPI changing when I load a game. At this point I'm getting a little annoyed.
One option is to un-install the SetPoint software. Great, that would stop it! But then, reading the above, I need the software to control the key mapping. Windows can't set up key mapping to extra keys and the games I play can't set up the extra buttons on the mouse.
So what are my options? Please help before this annoying piece of software gets the better of me, and my computer!
