Migrating Local Accounts onto an Active Directory

I'm messing around with my eval of Win2003 Server Standard, and am fiddling with Active Directory at the moment, with the aim of making roaming profiles stored centrally on a server. I have made user accounts and have PCs logging on, but what I'd like to do is make the old accounts on the clients (running Windows XP) the domain ones, so the settings and files they had when the system wasn't on a domain are retained now they are on a domain.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Tried the settings and transfer wizard?
Export the local ones, log onto domain account, import settings file.

If you also log on as anyone OTHER than the account you want to copy you can go to the profiles section of My Computer on the client machine and choose to "copy" the profile to another destination (your roaming profiles share) and then change it to a roaming profile etc.

OK, seems easy enough. Now, how do I setup the server to use roaming profiles?

From what I can remember you need to make a new share on the server specifically for Profiles and allow access to "EVERYONE" and then point the users start directory on their account in the AD to this one and then you should be able to switch it from local to roaming.

Wouldn't that mean that any user can access any other users files though, if access is set to everyone?

Or does Windows treat profile folders differently?

no, your actual profile is locked to a server account.
there was a nice and easy way to do this, if only I could remember.
I think for you the easiest method is to log on to those machines with a new domain account ...
will do this later - got told off for typing too loud.
