USB hard disks in Vista detected as RAW

Hi, my USB hards disks a working on my other PC but when I try the PC with Vista they are identified without any details and in RAW format. It was a couple of days ago I used them on this PC and they worked, I have uninstalled the couple of programs that had been installed in this time but that hasn't helped.

I can't detect any trogens/viruses with Malware or Kaspersky. It does seem if all the USB ports are effected for this problem as the flash drives are working.

Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious here, but have you tried it in another PC?

I had this happen once with a USB stick - the drive worked fine in XP, but did that in Vista. Formatting it with the HP USB stick formatting tool resolved it.

I've had this happen before as well. I couldnt get windows to do anything with the drive, even in "Disk Management".

I actually had to plug it into a Linux system, format as FAT32, then suddenly windows handled it fine again and I was able to reformat it as NTFS.
