Windows 7 Flickering interface, losing focus

I've been running windows 7 for a few months now and it's suddenly started behaving very oddly. When I try to select something in a window or click on a button or drag a window, the focus will jump between other windows and much flickering occurs between the windows. This is extremely annoying and means I have to try several times to click on boxes or move files or windows around. I've tried turning off aero and changing the theme to windows basic but it still happens. I've also done a full virus scan with nod32 and malwarebytes. Any ideas?

I'm having the exact same problem, its getting kind of old ...

I've tried disabling Aero and setting basic theme settings just like you, with no result.

Google Chrome doesnt seem to be effected by this, apps such as photoshop and ableton live are heavily effected.

    *Edit*

working fix found... shame i can't post links or i'd be able to share my findings... oh well lol

Hi Pendaz, I'd like to know the fix you've found. I'm having the same unwanted feature on both computers (desktop, and note). Can you send me the workaround in pm (namehere at freemail.hu), please? Von

Re: Windows 7 Flickering interface, losing focus

On my previous install Outlook 2007 caused this when it was minimised to the system tray (might have done it in the taskbar too), yet my system at work was unaffected. Closing Outlook 'fixed' the issue. I didn't bother trying to fix it properly as I never left outlook open at home. My reinstall isn't affected either.

Unlikely to be the cause for most, but it's worth a shot.

Unhappy Re: Windows 7 Flickering interface, losing focus

    Sorry, no Outlook is installed...
This problem is much more serious, and boring. I'm afraid it will not help to reinstall both machines. The most flickeirng comes using Photoshop (CS4, or CS5), or CorelDraw (X4, X5), it is almost impossible to use Save as... , 'cause the input window - where I could type the new name and select the filetype from pulldown - jumps away to the background. It comes back with drop the app down to the taskbar and switch back. It may stay once from 4-5 trys.
