Josh, I stand corrected - just checked the microsoft site and discovered that the patch will install with a minimum of SP2.
Paul, no chance of rolling updates here....
Every time we want to apply a patch, it goes off to "model office" who have to guarentee 100% compatibilty with every 3rd party application - NOT the other way round, where the micky mouse software writers have to make their product compatible with Windows!
The scarey part is, that the company currently has over 200 separate bespoke applications. We've told them time and time again that they're heading for disaster but hey, what do we know eh?
Current overtime bill is already into 5 figures, and we've still got much more work to do; They'll being billed separately for this, as they've ignored our advice.
The machines themselves are locked down 2k machines - users are denied access to just about everything with the exception of developers, who have free access to everything;mercifully the extent of support we give to developers is to re-image the machine if they break it! But did the company listen to us when we advised that the devlopers should all sit in a separate subnet? Nope......
Whats the point in employing a support company if you don't implement the ideas they suggest?
/rant mode off.... Drinks more caffine.. prepares for more overtime...
