    Webpage textbox

    Hi

I want to put a text box on my homepage and put updates in it, however i want two things to happen that I don't know how to do.

    1. I want the contects to be fixed, meaning the user cant delete it and enter text of their own

    and

    2. I want a transparant background so the page background comes through.

    Thanks
    Falcon

cos I cant think of a better way to do it, if i use a frame it will be more trouble than its worth, if i use a table it will require a whole rewrite of the page makign it more complex than it needs to be. A textbox seems the idea solution, assuming I can acheieve my two requests. I need to keep the code as simple as possible as I ahve a total n00B who is gonna be adding updates.

You've just said it isn;t going to be updated so which is it? You have a textbox which people will update or one which they won't ? If they don't need to update it then use a scrolling div. If they do then use a <textarea readonly="true"></textarea>

I meant that I as a host need to update the contents, not the site viewers

Yes, but you've just said you want to update it but you also don;t want users to. Why do you need this facility. Just display the text as normal text for the users and then use a textbox on a different page for when you have to update. My point is I can't see the need for a read only textbox under any circumstances. If you have some special reason then use the readonly parameter I mentioned earlier

btw, the site is nowhere NEAR finished and I expect many changes/rewrites be4 i start showing it off. The graphics are mostly temp and you dont need to tell me they suck, i allready know.

Edit: Perhaps i was also a little unclear of the sue of the textbox, i want to change the default message within the code, not from the "front end"
