DVD software? What should I use?

OK, I have never had any problems playing DVDs till now! Probaly because they were all pornos... Anyway I tried to play the matrix on my PC and all I got was alittle black box, right ontop of the vidio! What gives? Is this some form of copyright crap? What DVD player should I use? I found a player called DVDXPlayer but they want $100.00 dollars

    Thanks....

I got Power DVD with my CD-RW/DVD combo drive. I find that to be good, course i havent used anything else. I dont know if it is free either.

Im sure you can get wmp codecs, and winamp that will play DVD's jsut download them from somewhere. Also Real player should be able to do DVD's as well.

I also use PowerDVD, but I'm guessing there must be free codec out there for use with WMP. Alternatively try something like Xine http://xinehq.de/

powerdvd isn't free, it's about 5 pounds oem, or thirty retail.

there are a couple of mpeg2 codecs you could try, not sure which are free - elecard or ligos

also, videolan client (www.videolan.org) will just work from the outset, though it's not pretty.

I too have power dvd and it wont play pirats of the carabien or matrix reloaded! 4.0 did but my new version wont! I can only see the edges of the vidio! Also my ATI DVD player says that I'm limited to playing them in a certin res, and when I try fullscrean I get the black Box! Same with Windows media Player 9.0! Errr I hate DVDs!
