    Arrow Video encoding

Whats the best software to encode from one type to another ?
I'm recording quite a few things from UT2003, and want to encode them into DivX from avi.

    Whats your nominations ?

VirtualDub is worth a look, interface is a bit clunky at times but it does the job well.

Also TMpegenc is good for mpeg streams.

For avi-avi editing you can't do any better than vdub. Does UT2003 give you uncompressed avi streams? What about audio?

I also recommend VirtualDub. Nothing fancy, just allows your AVI into a DivX (Or anything else you have the codec for).

If you're really antsy about getting too mach detail and are scared by all the extra features, or plain don't want to spend time setting it up, go for Dr DivX. Just select the file and click Go (Almost), its really that simple.

But if you're a nutter (Like me) you set VirtualDub up and leave it to sift through several films a night (Cleaning, resizing, cropping etc.) Makes a mess of your HDDs though (Replacing at least one a year (All 80GB+), gets expensive!)

I've also created raw AVIs from a game (Asheron's Call in my case) using FRAPS 2.0, then used VirtualDub to edit sections together into a "movie" and add a soundtrack.

VirtualDub is very easy to use, and in combination with DivX 5.05 and MP3 codecs produces some decent-sized files.
