    Search Engines

Been having a bit of trouble with my most recent site.

Problem is mainly todo with search engines. For example if i mention the domain of the site in here, this post/thread will be first in the list, yet my website would be along way down, maybe on 3 or 4th page.

I know search engines dont use <meta> tags anymore but I want to know what they do use?

    Can anyone help me here?
    Thanks

Meta tags are generally ignored by all search engine robots now as they're notoriously unreliable. Have a look here for some useful info

As your page gets more clicks on google and the like from a partciular search string it will gain a higher priority. What are you typing in as your search? The site URL or keywords? Try to fit various keywords on your homepage, but don't spam it with keywords, some engines don't like that.

Just to make you aware yamangman that I personally find that to be one of the most annoying sig images ever. If anyone else complains I'm going to ask you to change it. Alternatively you could do me a personal favour and change it for something less animated and less distracting to the eye

The website is about a Nature reserve and the most popular search for it is an acronym of its full name.

I had the task of building their new site to replace their old one, but searching for just the acronym will only bring up the old site, not the new one.

Only way to get the new site is the acronym + nature reserve which isnt very helpful as everyone is used to the acronym

r1zeek, yup, I feel your pain, virtually all the search engine keyword referrals are coming in from the company website name, when we really want the product search keywords to be doing more..

In that case I ask you to tile it as your desktop background so that you may get used to it

Not sure if this is OT but anyone else noticed on google, just about every search, most of the results are just to other search engines of some kind? Well its really annoying me as imo they are just spam, nothing good can be on them.. and its making searching for lots of stuff quite time consuming... - Im not using google anymore either...
