    ARGH - Trying to install XP to a SATA drive

    ... and its driving me up the wall

    Right situation:

    Got a Maxtor DiamondMax 9 200GB sata drive
    Asus a8v delux
    Win XP Pro OEM

    I'm pressing f6 and loading the xp sata "promise" drivers when required yet windows still can't see the drive? What can I do? Anything or do I set fire to my machine???

    I am fairly sure you need to use the floppy disk and use the driver that came with the mobo.

    XP cannot verify or install to a S-ATA drive without the drivers being loaded from floppy previously me seems to remember....

    Nice little util on teh mobo cd that creates the required floppy image. Even then i'm still having trouble...

    I take it SATA is enabled in BIOS etc. (clutching at straws).?

    Maybe try & download later drivers?

    daft question - you do have hd on the Promise SATA connections & not the VIA SATA?
