Strange this, I reckon it is SP2 related as I've only had this problem since I installed SP2
- whenever I try to open my folder full of media files in various formats (Mpeg / Wmv etc) I get an error message saying Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close
I've done a bit of googling and found a possible solution that this mught be related to a conflict with SP2 displaying thumbnails of media files,
anyone else encountered this ?

Yup, windows has immense trouble previewing stuff like that.
Maybe try reinstalling any special codecs you put on prior to putting SP2 on?

It's common knowledge that you should do a clean install with a service pack. A heavily configured system that you introduce a new service pack to, is bound to fail. Reinstallations are friendly
