800 x 600 - border = ????

Just trying to get a design up and running for the website I got people to look at last week (www.academicproofreading.com), and I'm trying to get it to run at 800 x 600, but as with my 1024 x768 design, it's tricky to get the proportions correct. Does anyone have a failsafe set of measurements for pretty much all browsers on default settings? I'll take the measurements for 1024 x 768 if you've got them too...

Use Firefox and install the Web Developer toolbar, it allows you to specify a size for your window.

i'd personally steer clear of designs which require static pizes throughout - you should have at least one field which can expand and grow on effectively all browsers - a site which forces 800x600 will look silly at 3200x2400

Don't think he's going for static sizes hexeh, he's just making sure it works from 800x600 upwards.

Nope, hexeh's right, it's going to be static. The problem with scalable sites is that unless EVERYTHING is scalable according to screen resolution, then it's always going to look silly at 3200 x 2400 (wonder how long it's going to take to get up to those kind of default res settings? 10 years of net design, and we're still producing to 800 x 600). You can put spacers in to fill the screen, but your text, graphics, and other content are going to look increasingly stranded in a sea of resolution affected space.

Off topic, if anyone saw the latest PC Pro, you'll surely have been drooling over these two bits of uber-kit...maybe I need to start designing for higher res sooner than I thought....

2048x1536 still looks alright for lloyds ... that's the most I can get up to....

Maybe there's something for resizing tables after all....
