I was getting this before i patched the images one by one - the one thing i did notice for the x86 side was that if i used the patch all images the image file was smaller then i expected, patch them all on their own and the image came out at a size i exptected.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

It didn't work for me at all. I tried two different machines creating a ISO, but the same original ISO and updates. But when I installed windows it needed updates from SP1 to last months. Although I'm sure some updates must of been installed as the first window to pop up was the browser choice window, which isn't on a original ISO.
Is the ISO that's downloaded Windows 7 SP1? or just a plain Windows DVD.
I will be trying again by using a fresh download of updates, and ISO downloaded, then using a VM to try it. The whole point of it for me is my slow internet speed, so it will take a while for another go.
Still thanks for doing it as some people has had great success.

Am not sure i understand the issue.

It sounds like you are saying that it worked but when you checked WU there where more updates which is correct because this is only updated to last month. (If you read Agents posts he points this out)

or is it something else ?

Also are you trying to patch a x86 install or a x64 install image ?

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

    Hi

Sorry even that doesn't make much sense to me! Must of been asleep.
The ISO I created was missing lots of updates. The first update Windows required was SP1 and then everything else after that.
I guess some update worked as the browser choice window appeared when I started windows for the first time.

As it is this new install of windows has failed, I cannot run games and now I cannot access any USB drive. Plus while I type this excel refuses to work. All after installing everything and all updates. :-(

Its going to take another day at least to get it working.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

I don't see how it can want the SP1 update; the iso file that this grabs from MS is already patched to SP1 levels......

Something has gone very wrong but am not sure what. You could try getting the SP1 iso directly from MS yourself and burning that to disk and installing fresh from that; i know its a pain but it might be far quicker then trying to fix whats wrong currently.

    ps

    x86 is 32bit
    x64 is 64bit

you need to make sure you have the correct one for the system you have.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks! (32bit added)

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply's.

Right that might be the problem, I'm using my own Windows files, from a DVD, which isn't SP1. I skipped the ISO download and used mine as suggested in the video. I did this due to my slow internet connection and is why I like the sound of this script. Does it need a Windows SP1 ISO or can I use my original files? I hope it is the latter as it is nearly 5GB download on pigeon broadband so it's a over night job.

Yes I am patching the correct version and hadn't miss clicked.

While I am new to this forum I have been lurking a while, and I like to think I'm not a computer novice, not by a long shot. I fix a few PC's a month for friends and friends of friends for a little bit of extra cash. I'm more of a builder/modder and fixer. So scripts for me are a learning curve but one I want to learn about, so this a good interesting project that I want to fully understand. It will hopefully a) save me lots of time and bandwidth, b) teach me some very useful skills.

It needs SP1. There is no way around it.
SP1 is a collection of patches at it's heart, with a few others not available anywhere else but in the SP.

Once you have the ISO - you can reuse it. Just save it outside of the directory at the end.

You need to use a SP1 iso or unpacked SP1 image, like Agent said no way round this.

ps the sp1 x64 image is 3.2GB from MS, think the x86 is the same - might i sugest if your work is friendly enough to download the iso at work and stick it on a usb stick.

    Hi

Thanks for the info, and I re-read the first post and yes it's there, Windows 7 SP1 needed. I feel stupid now.

If only I had the internet at work, that would be great, but am afraid not.

Well that's tonight's download sorted, thanks for the clarity on the issue I needed it!

    Take care

P.S If you do another video I suggest you make it clear for people like me!

It then tried to install 146 updates in my case if I remember - Anyway will test it in a VM at some point.

Re: How to make a patched Windows 7 64 bit image - with a few clicks!

Just tried this out using a 16GB RAMdisk but very close to the end of update patching I ran out of space on the RAMdisk. I'm now trying again using a 1TB array. Hopefully if it completes I'll try the completed installation ISO on a VM. Looks promising so far.

If you do the patch all it is, if you patch each x86 image one at a time it works. The other odd thing i have noticed [and if you look at past replys] is that it also copys the x64 patches in with the x86; or thats what it seems to be doing.

I've fixed the 32bit version It's got all the latest patches in and I've fixed the all images issue.

I'll upload it tomorrow and update the post. I'll sort the 64bit one soon too - it just takes a long time to do these if any issues crop up.
