    Need a decent CMS...

Which allows me to use my OWN website design as opposed to a template created by the CMS.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Ok i have no idea how to create a template. I've been going through drupal documentation ( http://www.drupal.org/ ) to see how easily i could create a template but it looks harder than i thought.

I have used LDU before (http://www.neocrome.net/) its not bad, although skinning it yourself can be abit of a chor.

How competant are you at (X)HTML/CSS/PHP and web designing itself?

ill take a look at drupal and see what its saying.
ill get back to you with some more cms' that i find.

Well i'm using mambo now, i've got it successfully installed. I know XHTML and CSS and i'm a "programmer" anyway (CS first year) so it's not hard to me. Mambo seems quite friendly for a template, i'm going to knock up a design now and see if i can get it working

    http://nucleuscms.org/ looks similar to drupal.
    http://phpnuke.org/ is another popular one
LOADS of them here though: http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Script...ent/index.html some are free and some arent.

Just took a look at this mambo thing and it looks really good. I might install it on my webserver to have a play around. Good luck with the skinning....If you get stuck, holla at me.

    http://www.postnuke.com

Either hack apart an existing theme/template or make your own.

I'd say if you're patient enough, get the Java/JSP books out. You could knock up a pretty decent CMS in 6 months if you were an averagely good learner

    (nothing like a challenge )

lol I didn't realise the date of that. Joomla probly wasn't invented back then.

I replied 2 and a half years too late...

Nope, Joomla didn't exist back then, WordPress did though.

Well, I use WordPress now for my sites, even for non-blog sites too.

With Joomla and a bit of coding you can easily modify the design templates.

Stay well clear of any CMS with Nuke in the title. They all have massive security risks.
