Detailed Mcafee Info - your opinions

a while ago I posted this thread http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.p...ighlight=virus

    some great feedback.

After some serious support issues with symantic and their "product activiation" crap - I've called it a day.

Mcafee seems to be the more popular and main stream choice, which I may be wrong on but for the regular updates and product support by things like office/games/apps you need a main stream app you need a main stream app.

I've read interesting stories on mcafee having little/no footprint to slowing the machine down big time and serious application compatablities.

Tell me your thoughts/experiences I'd be really interested. If you feel really strong that another product is worth me investigating also let me know.

    thanks,

I use NOD32 on my laptop, which is great. Desktop runs Symantec Antivirus (note, not the same as Norton).

Personally, the performance hit is less important to me that the AV's abillity to detect viruses. NAV, Symantec, McAfee and AVG were all disappointing in that respect.

I'm evaluating Panda Titantium at the moment, which was more effective that any of the above.

Sophos uses 16.6Mb of memory and 20mb of pagefile space for me, considering most people have at least 512mb of RAM thats hardly a large footprint, but the acctual performance hit is hardly noticeable, its quite efficent at on-access checking as it only calculates the crc checksum of the file to see if its been modified before scanning it properly, my only gripe with sophos is if some process keeps trying to launch a virus infected file it will keep popping up a box with information on the virus over and over and over.
