Norton Ghost 2003 (Clone Help, from a Pro)

Norton Ghost 2003 (Clone Help, from a Pro)

I have used Norton Ghost to clone my Maxtor IDE drive onto my Seagate SATA drive,
when the cloning had finished the PC rebooted and i got back into windows and it comes up as
    C: Maxtor
    and
    D: Seagate

Checked the D: drive and it has cloned the drive like it should and all ok...But
when turning PC off and then disconnecting the Maxtor and leaving the Seagate it comes up with OS error ....

I tried to do windows repair on it but still no joy

Does it matter that i cloned a IDE HDD onto a ATA HDD?

Any one have any ideas? Would be very Grateful for your Posts!

Have you set the new drive as a 'master'?

No need with a SATA drive. One problem could be that there won't be a SATA driver in your Ghost image, so the PC won't actually be able to 'read' the hdd...

It sounds like the master boot record is broken. Don't know how to fix it though. Try google.

fdisk /mbr sorts dodge master boot records. Personally I reckon its missing/wrongly configured SATA drivers or active partitions or summint.

Ghost V9 is the only version of ghost that has proper SATA support, v8 will do some SATA adaptors but it seems hit&miss if it works or not.

Ive had no problems with Ghost V9 on various onboard/pci SATA adaptors.
