Problem installing Visual Basic 6

My cousin has a CD (from a manual) with VB6 on it. When he tries to install it, an error occurs in a '16-bit Windows Subsystem' box

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitablefor running MS-DOSand Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

Any ideas why this is?
