I actually prefere azereus after tryign them all. I like the interface and the options. While it does use a lot of resources compared to the tohers you are downloading fairly quickly too which rules out any MP Games. You can browse the web and talk on msn fine so the resource usage isnt a problem really for me
A-n-a-l-o-g-y. Perhaps i should of made it clearer, just for youOriginally Posted by Wiczy
Pedantism aside, Azureus is otherwise a very well featured client crippled by a poor choice of programming language, which gives rise to it's resource hogging and configuration problems (the 100% cpu problem has caused more than it's fair share of upset folk in a number of versions). I too have a dedicated box for download (the shuttle below) but i'd rather use my resources for a large disk cache (reducing hard drive wear and tear) and keep my cpu time low to reduce power (and heat). As i've said before, i've used Azureus for a very long time now as there really hasn't been any decent alternative. However, BitComet seems to have come a long way and for the past week has impressed me to the point of sticking with it.
I think the only thing i miss from Azureus right now is being able to select up/down limits per torrent rather than basic 'priority' but it's not a big enough reason to go back to the disk-churning nastyness of yore
Each to his own in any case, but i stand by my opinion that Azureus is seriously flawed by being a JAVA app; a language best suited to pretty much anything other than a tray-based download client.
So you don't like it...great ..does that mean it's 'crap' ... NO of course it doesn't !
And i understood perfectly i just thought i would have a giggle....i'll remember not to bother in future.
'java-crap' Is what I said, don't misquote me - i merely implied (and explained above at length) that it was hobbled by JavaOriginally Posted by Wiczy
Apparently you didn't tho, as you didn't get the gist of my original comment. No need to sulk, i'm just putting across a point of view, not scoring points here. I'm sorry but i don't subscribe to the idea that just because something is popular it can't be deeply flawed, and i think i've more than explained my reasoning in Azureus' case, don't you?Originally Posted by Wiczy
In any case, let's let it lie - there's little point in debating the issue further.
LOL im not sulking. I just have better things to do with my time than argue with people like you.
You don't like java and as a result you don't like Azureus but you have used it for so long because it was the best there was...am i right so far ?
Then i am at a loss as to why you bothered with the 'sun' analogy as you quite clearly agree that Azureus is the best/most popular....or at least it was until you found your new client.
I think i have made my point clear too, don't you ?
And yes...let's leave it at that.

Currently using the Full "Bit Torrent" client but looking at switching and g3 looks like it might have won out in the simplistic stakes.....
Then either don't post, or stop coming across like a spoilt child and contribute.Originally Posted by Wiczy
Almost - as i said " but i stand by my opinion that Azureus is seriously flawed by being a JAVA app; a language best suited to pretty much anything other than a tray-based download client." Which doesn't, by the way, outlaw JAVA in all-things to me. It has it's place in the world but what i'm elluding to is that it doesn't suit _this particular job_..Originally Posted by Wiczy
...and you've lost it again. No, I quite clearly said "Azureus is otherwise a very well featured client crippled by a poor choice of programming language" and whilst I don't question it's popularity, I don't equate 'popular' with 'best' as they're often different things - hence the 'Sun' analogy. Perhaps a better one in this context is IE - it's the most popular, but is it the best?Originally Posted by Wiczy
Call me crazy - and i might well be - but perhaps a client that sits on 200-400meg of memory (paged and physical) _isn't_ the best, because that, again in my most humble opinion, is called _bloatware_.
And what point was that? I'm wrong, you're not? I can't see you've contributed much to the debate aside from getting miffed at me for saying I don't like Azureus _and_ giving reasons why!Originally Posted by Wiczy
