Red face Any Diagnostic DOS based Software?

    Hi

I have built a new AMD System, However after the system is on for 5min it eithr freezes all restarts. I am unable to to install any OS. I think the problem could be either with the CPU or the Motherboard. ANy one know of any software DOS based that I can run to find out what the problem is with which part of the system hardware?

    Many thanks

    Try memtest 86 for..you guessed it...memory!

    http://www.memtest86.com/

Have you tried toning down memory latencies in the bios? Taking out any PCI cards you have? Checking everything is plugged in and hence not overheating and auto-shutting down?

Thanks for our reply. I am a PC Seller myself. I build about 30 systems a week and sometimes I get the odd problem. Lastt ime this happend it turned out to be a faulty CPU. The thing is if I run memtest it will just freez at some point. Rather than sending off the part to teh supplier I was thinking that maybe there was a software I could use to report the erro so I will be sure exactly where the problem lies. It should eiter be The MB or CPU. My best bet is the CPU but just wanted to be 100% sure before taking it out.

ANy advie on any particular programms?

Its almost impossible to test the motherboard independently from the CPU using diagnostic software - same for the mobo and RAM.

TBH, if you're doing 30 systems a week, you have a load more knowledge than me...why not try a different cpu on that board, and that cpu on a different board??

Not come across a cpu that half works before....tried sitting watching the temp gauge in the bios??

    Talking

Well thats the thing, I don't have any other CPU in stock and this customer has been waiting a while on his item, I bet any money though that its the CPU. The supplier packages it so bloody bad that i would strangle him if i ever see him in person. Do PC world sell any OEM CPUs? may just buy one and swap it around rather than wait for stock to get this customer off my back
