    Question Windows XP Gold

I am sure it is obvious but I do not seem to be able to find the answer in Google. What is Windows XP Gold? How does it differ form Windows XP? Is Windows XP Gold just Windows XP with SP1 and the latest patches or is it actually something different?

sounds like the name of a product found only on kazaa

there are only 4 variants of XP in the wild - XP Pro, XP Home, XP Pro SP1 and XP Home SP1. any other versions (such as the much touted Corp) are insignificant modifications on one of the above. there is no "gold" from microsoft corp, nor will there ever be. the only versions in the forseeable future are XP 64bit and XP Home/Pro SP2

So why on the Microsoft website are there patches for "Windows XP Gold", for example, http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS03-041.asp

I am wondering if it is an old name for "Windows XP"?

gold is the general term for released software. there's no mention of "XP Gold" anywhere else, so presumably they're just using the term "gold" in that context to cover all released versions of XP (i.e. not any release candidates).

That would make sense, never heard the term used before though. I had not noticed it before when downloading patches, which made me wonder if it was something new and that the patches might not be compatible with my XP. Cheers.
