    E-Mail client software and spam

    Like most people, I get a hell of a lot of spam in my inbox and it's driving me nuts. Now, all of the spam I get is formatted in html and all of the e-mail I actually want to read isn't.

    So, at first, I thought that if I created a rule in Outlook Express saying if body contains the word "<html>" then delete e-mail I would be fine but it appears that Outlook Express ignores HTML tags when applying rules.

    Does anyone know of an e-mail client that will automatically delete all html-based e-mails?

    Thanks.

    I am not sure how well this will work, but I think you want to look for specific text in the message header.

    E.G. a HTML spam message I got had...
    Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

    A legit plain text message had...
    Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

    I dunno if this will knock out plain text mails with attachments but try the rule..

    On recieving an email, check for the text "Content-Type: multipart/alternative;" in the message header, and delete the message if found.

    Again, I dunno how well it will work (with some HTML messages having attatchments) but you could add an exception rule to it.

    On recieving an email, check for the text "Content-Type: multipart/alternative;" in the message header, and delete the message if found, except if the message has an attachment.

    Tis all off the top of my head, so I cannot verify

    Sadly, Outlook Express doesn't give the option to check the header as a rule type.

    Get a decent mailreader then!

    Seriously, Thunderbird is coming along nicely. I use Gemini but it costs.
