    Question Exchange Backup

I'm currently using windows backup to back up an exchange store, not the best method but better than none.

I have however found two things, one is the size of the backup, as you can see in the pic its 61Gb, however the actual mailbox size for all the users isnt anymore than 20gb

also the weird thing is the modified date of the file, how is it possible to be a few days ahead?

    Thanks

Check the time/date on the server. It's probably off. As far as the backup size, if it's backing up everything, that'll include the database's "white space", i.e. space allocated to data at one time, freed by deleting the data, but not restored to the filesystem as free space. Also, it should be backing up the streaming store files (.stm) which can be pretty large.

dont forget about retained items - if you have a 60 day item retention , then it'll hold 60 days of items, which wont show on the users mailbox.
