In winXP, can said thing be done?
I want to replace it with this:
Read the latest issue of Custom PC (Jan '04 Issue 004 pages 90-100). There's a whole article about modding Win XP. I've read most of it and think I may have seen a way to do it but I can't remember (was a few days ago).
Anyway, there's loads of links for programs to hack the look of XP to what you want and also lots of skin programs/editors. Very interesting!
Jo, where is that NTOSKRNL file? I tried looking in the one in System32 but it doesn't have a logon screen image.
I believe that's the GINA (msgina.dll).
Some network clients replace this with their own (e.g. pcAnywhere and NetWare are classic ones), but there is code behind the window so it's not just a straightforward image replacement.
I Google'd and found the beginning of an article that seemed to imply you could modify the GINA, but you have to pay to read the rest LOL.
I did find a detailed overview on how to code your own on codeguru.com or something, but nothing that's a generic replacement DLL that points to an external BMP file or what-have-you I'm afraid.
~ I have CDO. It's like OCD except the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be. ~

I will do directhex. I had a copy of win2k3 server that I just played with - found the resource and hacked it. Unfortunately when I reset it the activation kicked in (I'd had it's state saved for a while - before the 14 day period ran out.)
So I'm installing XP now - gonna do some heavy OS modding me thinks!
