    What the Hell is Happening?

I think my PC is Buggered. I turned off my AVG antivirus for 2 minutes to do an NForce update, and Now Im certain that ive got some kind of worm/virus.

    Reasons for this are:

Everythings increadibly slow after after about 2 hours of uptime (previously stable 24/7 for weeks)

I keep getting remote RPC shutdown, and its annoying the hell out of me (so much that Ive disabled it)

I keep getting low memory warnings (when i try to watch a DivX for example)

I have got microsoft wechia patch and have the XP firewall running, and as stated have AVG free edition antivirus.

    Help!

Im more concerned about nothing showing up on antivirus, than the state of my system, as Its about time for a reformat anyway.... just gotta wait till i get my new hard drive (should be about a week).

Anyway, i suppose I should give you the specs (important ones only)

    Athlon 1800 @ 2.1 (1.6v, 35C)
    NF7 - S
    PC3200 Twinmos w Winbond (200FSB, 2.8v)
    Running XP Pro SP1

Anyone got any Ideas please post

    You have the Blaster worm.

The patch should be on Windows Update, if not, use this...
    http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html

And download the "FixBlaste.exe" file on there too...

    it's possible that:
    a) the patch didn't install properly or
    b) you've installed the old patch? (after ms released the first patch, they released an updated version that worked better)

    i'd recommend:
    1) making sure you have ALL the updates available from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
    2) a - your A/v software is up to date (and you do a full scan), or b - you use stinger from mcafee to do a quick check to make sure you don't have blaster/welchia etc. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
    3) install a firewall (eg zonealarm) or enable the winxp firewall

it does sound like the patch to windows hasn't worked and you are still being affected by other people who are infected with either blaster or welchia.

    hope it all works out

Not necessarily lost it all if you can Ghost the HD then you may be able to save some of it.
