Fax Software - Automate Receive and print?

Hi all,

I am having a bit of an issue at work at the mo, in that we have a Xerox Fax/copier that is costing a lot in the way of maintenance. What I am after is some software that can be used to answer and print incoming faxes automatically, negating the need for the Xerox.

So far:

I have a machine with a US robotics 56k fax/modem attached. It auto answers fine and recieves faxes no problem, using either win XP's Fax tools or win 2k's. The issue comes with printing....

Basically it appears that the xp fax tools will only allow me to log onto the service as the local user rather than a network user. Meaning that I am unable to print to any of the printers on the network, what happens is that it says that the fax printer is unavailable and asks me to run a Microsoft shared fax driver install. This appears to be a known issue with the XP Fax Software.

Under Win2k, I am unable to get it to automatically print to anything it seems!!!

Anyone know a fix for this, or a good (reliable) piece of software that either handles the printing using the XP software, or does the job on it's own?

I'm sure the faxing built into 2003 SBS will auto print - it also saves a copy to the intranet.

If not have you tried something like winfax ?

If you are a high volume faxer , you may want to consider a proper fax card ( such as the brooktrout ones ) - they really are a good investment.

Right l just looked in the comms room and we have a Brooktrout card, its old though either EISA or ISA.

Currently the Brooktrout card is in a Windows 2000 server but its not being used.

We have a server doing nowt that will be retired soon after an office move, which would free up a Server 2k3 license, so do you reckon that that would do what we are after? of is it just the SBS version that will do it?

Winfax has been pulled by Symantec as I understand it, not sure about that but it had been considered - also Zeta Fax

I've not played aroudn with Faxing on regular 2k3 servers - they just ran ZetaFax or Rightfax.

The other faxing software worth looking at is GFI Faxmaker

I am going to have take a look at these next week now, after speaking to my Boss here I have been given a few more options now. Any ideas over the weekend then I will post em up here - Have a good weekend Moby.
