    • Download some drivers for your graphics card as they will just be standard windows ones not specific for your card ...
    • Bit strange......
    • My 6800 Ultra is working fine, bit bizzare ...
    • Odd I assume your using the beta drivers from creative?
    • I think the sound issue might be related to your current driver?

I've gripes with vista, lots of them, but all in all its still a great OS (even thou multiple file seleciton in explorer via the shift key is bust... WHY!?!)

But these do sound like driver issues, if your hardware manafacturers haven't got their ass in gear, well thats their fault really!

Wait a little while if you don't want greif, if you want bleeding edge, then quit moaning.

    DR - no thanks

I was not slating Vista, I love the OS, and as a Day 1 user I have to take into account the issues. Black mark to Creative that they have not managed to have a working driver set on release.

I managed to tame my X-fi by disabling it and re-enabling it in Device Manager. the sound seems a lot more stable but will wait to see what the gold driver set does next month.

Digit - to elaborate on the driver issue, the machine picked up the ATI driver from the DVD and no matter what you try, be it safe mode or whatever, the PC will not boot. I dont think you can install with an X1600 unless you doctor the DVD with new drivers.

The first public posting concerning this error that I could find was dated Jan 2006 :/.

If you'd bought the retail version you'd be able to phone them up and hassle them over it.

true but win2k was a bit different, lots of firms had seamed to of become simply just 'home' user firms. As such all they supported was windows 98,95,95osr2.

NT4 was complicated, but easy to develope for, it was just a learning experiance. Yet lots of people didn't bother, they stayed with just 98/ME, when 2k came out, it was rather time consuming to port the back catalogue, whilst at the same time they had no way of over coming the brain drain caused by training their excisting staff on the use of the new os.

With Vista, all the companies knew it was in existence since 2003, they (and we) had beta code for the best part of last year, and then it comes to launch day and reliable drivers are not available?

Microsoft should have been kicking a lot of ass during Q4 last year, AMD, nVidia, Creative, Intel etc etc. so that the end user experience would be more favourable.

You try telling John Smith in PC WOrld that his new shiny X-Fi will not work properly with his Shiny new Vista PC until APril?

You raise a good and valid point. In some ways the driver support is there but to still have beta drivers when the OS has been released is a bit poor. Its not like the OS itself hasnt been in development for long enough for the companies mentioned to get the drivers developed and working for release .....

And of course there is the other angle of support. On the one hand, they say they support Vista and on the other they say that the Beta drivers are not supported and used at the user's own risk.

I (and most of the people on the forum) can handle beta code and know the risks that go with it, if you are not versed in IT and have a problem and then not supported by the companies concerned then invariably you blame Vista and Microsoft for the issues as "it was working under XP"

It's just Creative being as shocking as ever. Excellent products, horrific support.

Nothing has changed since the Live! series at least.

Sorry to say it, but this is where experience counts.

As for the graphics card issues - I've no idea - nV had some issues with the RC versions, but as far as I'm aware, they've all been cleared since RTM. Everything just works now, both out of the box, and with the full drivers available to download - performance still sucks in many cases though.

just as I start thinking about getting vista...

and they have just announced its sequel, vienna or something. Think i'll wait until that - will probably just be a bug fix/overhaul like 2k to xp was seeing how microsoft reckon it is only 2-3 years away.
