    SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

Ignoring the price issue, which SSD would Corsair recommend for a Playstation 3 ? The PS3 doesn't support the TRIM function so it needs some automatic garbage collection. Its hard to make out which drives have this feature so wondering if Corsair rep could respond ?

Performance wise then Force series look like they could make even Gran Turismo 5 load fast but what about the TRIM / Garbage issue ?

    TIA

I read an article a while back saying that there is no difference between using a normal HDD and a SSD. Save your money.

Re: SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

Last video I saw checking this found that the PS3 ran at exactly the same speed with an SSD or a hard drive. Seems that it's hard-coded somehow so that it will always take the same amount of time, irrespective of how good the hard drive is.

    As the above two.

GT5 has been fixed now anyway
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

I think it depends on the game and using the latest generation of SSDs

    boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/PS3-Drive-Comparison-HDD-vs-SSD-New-and-Improved/m-p/43584590 (I can't post the URL yet)

This suggest it is quite, marginal on some things but much quick on others like Wipeout and GT5. I know its a lot more money and a 2.5" 7200rpm HDD is better value but I was wondering if SSD are technically a good idea because of the TRIM / Garbage issues. Also it won't be long before SSDs are in the price bracket, depending what capacity you want. I have a 80gb HDD and don't need anything much bigger, I would like faster loading though.

But it has been proven, that swapping out for an SSD doesn't improve anything.

Re: SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

It improves loading times if you use a modern SSD as per the link I posted. I've read other postings confirming this and comparison videos on youtube.

Re: SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

The type of SSD won't make a difference at all, that's just plain wrong.

Whether they've introduced a recent update that changes things, that's a possibility.

Some more info confirming games to load faster with SSD but also confirming the issue with the lack of TRIM function.

Re: SSD for PS3 recommendations ?

I think the SandForce drives have their own "garbage collection" system that works outside of any TRIM function, but that's only from memory.

Don't think they do anything special (some routine garbage collection), but by compressing data they reduce write amplification anyway.

The new toshiba controllers are the ones with aggressive OS independent garbage collection.
