    Heart Attack

Edit - Just realised the title might be a little on the alarmist side.....sorry....

I was on one of those ski machines yesterday, one with a built in heart rate sensor. Toward the end of a very strenuous workout I thought I'd check to see how I was doing....turns out my heart was doing 190 bpm....after 30 secs it was down to 178. Even so, isn't 190 a little high?

I know those machines aren't hugely accurate, but even with a 10% margin for error, that's still pretty high, right?

    hehe

Depends how old you are. I think the maximum heart rate is about 220- your age as a male.

I can't use those machines because of my heart condition, it jumps all over the place (64,90,180,40 etc)

Don't worry, you were probably going too fast on the machine. Going slowly burns more fat if thats your goal...

As said, 220-age is a rough measurement for your max heart rate, though you should only try to approach your max when being supervised because you do run the risk of a cardiac arrest.

Just turned 30, so 190 is spot on. Certainly felt like I was pushing things a little....not like I was killing myself, but certainly working in the upper ranges.

Plus the machine is probably +/- 5-10%, hopefully in my favour. So maybe nothing to worry about. I'm not completely out of shape, so quite suprised I managed to push things that far. My chest hasn't felt that way since cross country at school.
