    Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

Well that was quick, only lasted 7 months.

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Newcastle United | Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

Anyone got any ideas who the next manager might be? I personally think big sam was doing all right, and needed maybe a whole season to develop his squad but it seems clubs want instant success nowadays.

Don't think 'big Sam' was given enough time. Locals will be clambering for Shearer but I doubt that he would be their saviour .

Favourite with the bookies is Harry redknap but IMO that would be a bad move for Harry he has a good team at pompey and is doing well why would he want to take the poisoned challice that is the newcastle job.

Shearer is supposed to be happy with being a pundit atm, Shame the MOTD viewers dont think he`s any good lol

Re: Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

Sacking a manager while sat in 11th place well outside the relegation area is stupid, You can't build rome in a day, but that seems to be the moto of the premiership managers nowadays, instance success or you are gone.

I honestly think Sam would have taken Newcastle up to a consistent top 6 club, but it would have taken 3-4 years. But even that wasn't good enough for Newcastle fans, Bobby Robson had top 3rd/4th place finishes for 3 years running and still got the sack.

Newcastle think they are a big club and they are so wrong, they are where they should be at the moment, mid table. They've got nothing about them that says big 4. Just look how long that has taken the big 4 to develop. Years and Years.

I honestly thing Newcastle will struggle to get a manager of any quality willing to go up there, as quite frankly most people wouldn't want the hassle.

I'm with TiG on this one, they should have kept Sam on. At least until the end of the season.

Agree kind of with tig but your forgetting Chelseas entrant in the big came with a hefty investment.

Newcastle have a lot of very passionate fans its just a shame that the managers are not given chance. Saying that I though Sam wasnt the right manager for newcastle in the first place.

Re: Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

I disagree i think Big sam was exactly what Newcastle needed. The worst part of Newcastle's team historically has been the defense, inadequate at best, completely shocking at worst. Boumsong, Titus Bramble to name just a few.

But even going back to the Daglish/Keegan era's i can remember several 4-3 losses to liverpool.

Building a solid back 4 is without doubt the most important thing newcastle should be resolving, the GD of -6 is not acceptable and has to be worked on.

Michael Owen will get goals if you can keep him fit, Viduka will too if he regains his ability to run more than 2 yards.

I'm suprised at the timing, its poor and i think the longer Newcastle are without a manager the longer the laughing stock effect will go on, and that isn't going to do newcastle any good.

As per usual the people in charge are so out of touch with what is good for them have missed out and blown there chance of a decent manager to get them where they think they should be.

Re: Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

I think they was a little quick to pull the trigger, problem with Newcastle as TIG says they think they are a big team and they have to start realising that they are probably up there with the biggest under achieving sides in the premiership. If they did not live off their so called reputation and played within their means you could actually say they are not doing bad which underlines the fact they obviously think they should be up there with the top 4 which is franky insane!

Re: Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

I think the board were right to sack him. Ever since the new board came in, weeks after Freddy Shepherd had appointed Allardyce, it seemed evident that they didn't really want him.

Selling Scott Parker (best player by far for the previous 2 seasons) and Kieron Dyer to West Ham, then replacing them with Joey Barton, Viduka (who is well past his sell-by date), Alan Smith (a good signing imo, but not as a defensive midfielder) and 3 so-far-unimpressive defenders was not the most inspired decision by Allardyce.

Players have been played out of position for much of the season, there is a serious lack of a creative central midfielder and the defence has looked shaky.

Allardyce could have had more time, but when the fans were against him, and he wasn't the board's choice, then the end to his reign always seemed close.

However, sacking a manger during the transfer window is a shot in the foot, the new manager won't have enough time to buy any players or judge his team properly before the window closes.

Thats the loop that Newcastle are in though. The fans demand glory straightaway else they call for the managers head. Whatever manager is there they will never be happy longterm. Newcastle fans as a combined unit only have them selves to blame for the lack of success at Newcastle. As pointed out earlier Newcastle aren't as big a club as the fans think it is. Big clubs win big trophies or repeatedly get close to winning such silverware consistently over a period of years (Chelsea in my view are an anomaly in this regard). Newcastle haven't done that, and until they get close to it, they can't be considered a big club in the sense the fans think it is now. It's a case of trying to sprint before you can crawl.

The fans (as clueless as they appear) want Shearer to take the reigns because he is Newcastle through and through. Well if they ride that wave then I suspect that they won't get too far yet again and will ultimately want Shearer out too; I can see it now. imho Shearer isn't management material.

I will end by saying, if any club wants to give its self a chance of doing well then it should start with limiting the number of managers it has over a given period of time and having confidence in him. Just give him a chance. Building success takes time...make note of the word 'building'. NC have had about 6 full time managers in the last 10 years. Clutching at managers every now and then does nothing for the club. No stability with the manager = no stability in the team. Alex Ferguson was almost sacked at the start of his UTD career, now look where they are and where they have been with him at the helm. Look how good and and for the most part, stable Arsenal have been since Wenger took charge. It says something I think.

Re: Allardyce reign ends at Newcastle

There's a good article from Graham Taylor in the torygraph which pretty much sums up what has to happen a NUFC. Never used to agree with the Turnip when he was managing, but alot of his articles now seem to be well received.

Newcastle have too much quality to be relegated, but I sometimes think that it would probably be a good thing for the club if they were. The job is a poisoned chalice now, much like the England job. It will take someone with vision and a strong personality to turn them around. I'd love to see "the special one" take it on, he would be ideal. Unless they get a top manager along with a proper plan for the club I can't see them going anywhere and they'll definitely lose Michael Owen in the summer.

As has been pointed out the "Geordie faithful" are a hindrance rather than a help. It's not surprising that Alan "he walks on the Tyne" Shearer is not interested and Redknapp has done the sane thing.
"Reality is what it is, not what you want it to be." Frank Zappa. ----------- "The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike." Huang Po.----------- "A drowsy line of wasted time bathes my open mind", - Ride.

Well it has just been announced that Keegan has returned to Newcastle, personally I think this is a good thing for them. He had a good record before, is popular and has a chance of persuading Shearer over as an assistant.

What the legendary " I'd love it if we beat them... I'd love it! " outburst?

That outburst on Sky a few seasons back was the highlight of the season.

He makes me laugh when I see it on shows like Soccer AM etc.
