    Re: Army

Give High-intensity interval training a go...

I would recommend sprinting for 1 min and then walking for 1-2 min depending on fitness... I normally do it on a treadmill, but it applies to any cardio really...

And its worth buying a heart rate monitor imo to measure improvements and to see if you are doing too much/little

    Re: Army

cut down the weight training to 1hour (40mins preferably) max for 3days a week
    quit smoking
cardio (hiit training) 4 times a week

    hows your diet?

    Re: Army

The fitness training you'll receive when you begin training will be progressive - there will be some larger and less fit than yourself. The training you are already doing will stand you in good stead - plenty of recruits will have done nothing (although plenty will be very fit too). In terms of training specifics, you'll benefit from running 40mins upwards, which should see your 1.5 mile time dropping. Fartlec training/hill training would be useful as well.

    Re: Army

when i tried to join ten years ago you had to do that 1.5 miles in 10 min 30 and 1 minute faster for the para trials

you also needed to do do a set number of chinups plus 100 sit ups in 2 mins and a load of press ups.

definitely give up the smoking i used to do my 1.5 in 9 minutes as a smoker now i have gievn up i can't do 9 minutes anymore but i feel alot less wasted when i finish

if you give up smoking watch the weight gain i put on about 2 stone when i gave up now i have to lose 10 pounds to get back to my ideal weight

    Re: Army

Have a look at the below pdf to find out the figures that you need to be able to do. As above remember though that while you need to be fit you don't need to be superman when you join as you'll be doing a lot of PT.

Running is important as everything comes down to it from 1.5mile runs to the 8mile odd CFTs. But don't forget about sit-ups, push-ups and a general all round workout. Better to be slower but able to carry the kit
