    Much sadness....

I've got a manufacturing defect, or I've managed to land my bike in the most unfortunate way, in that the mech hanger just bent instead of breaking... it's bent the drop-out on the frame too, so now the mech won't sit straight and it's bent another hanger just through changing gear

So it's in for a warranty replacement at the mo - hoping that they'll honour it, but it's more likely that they'll claim it's crash damage and walk away from it, in which case, I'll have to get a new frame. I'm very tempted by one of these, in white: http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/FROOIN2N...-frame-2nd-gen as it has all the same angles as my current frame, with a slightly longer top tube (30mm).

It'll be a couple of weeks before they get round to sorting it either way I reckon... fingers crossed!

I would be tempted as well, though I would also consider the slot drop out version for the same money, as that would give me the option to run it as a single speed or hub geared bike. (Which is very tempting at this time of year).

Seeing as it is a steel frame, you would be much less likely to bend a drop-out, and if you do manage it, then a skilful bike shop mechanic (with the correct tools), will be able to bend it back into alignment for you.

Was your old bike steel or Aluminium?

it still is a lovely 6061 Alu frame - and I'm going for that particular frame as the slot-drop option doesn't come in white and I'll never run a SS - my knees wouldn't cope over here - many, many hills - you can't go on a ride without at least one stiff climb. Also my mate has a slot-drop 29er Inbred, and it's a complete arse getting the rear brake setup.. chain tugs and all that nonsense..

I was more thinking hub gear than single speed. Shimano now do an 11 speed hub gear that has the same spread of gears as a 2 chain ring derailer set-up, but everything is sealed up inside the hub and protected from mud and external damage, so at the end of a muddy ride all you have to do is chuck the bike in the garage, and yourself in a hot bath.

No photos, it was in the dark , so I don't even know what I slipped on when it happened. I'm not convinced the frame bent in the crash anyway - I'm pretty sure it was already bent , which would explain why the hanger didn't snap itself. Good thing is, the frame is being replaced so yay!

    Re: Much sadness....

Update: bike's been away since the beginning of November, and because of the wait, I'm getting a 2011 Nail Trail frame instead of the '09 Eldridge Grade I was getting Nice
