Stronglifts 5x5, any one using it?
Well, I want to lose weight and gain some muscle, ive started the stronglifts workout but I was wondering if anyone has done it and how much was achieved by this routine.
I currently 5x5:
Squat 45kg
Bench 37.5kg
Deadlift 60kg
Barbell Row ? (because when I did it I used a small bar with 10kg aside I only realised it was the wrong bar after the workout )
Overhead press 25kg
According to stronglifts in 3 months time I will be able to:
Squat 132.5kg
Bench 80kg
Deadlift 145kg
Overhead press 67.5kg
I personally think thats impossible but we will see, I will post my progress every 2 weeks.
Edit: I forgot to mention I weigh 86kg and my body fat % is high but im not sure what it is and im around 5'6" and im 16 :(
Re: Stronglifts 5x5, any one using it?
I modified it slightly and have used it as the basis for a routine twice over the last few years combined with some fairly vicious cardio. I dropped weight fairly quickly but those projections for what you'll be able to lift in three months seem very high. For instance from what I remember over the first couple of months I went from military pressing around 80lbs to 110-130, not 200+ as some quick mental guesstimations to place me in line with those predictions would imply. The figure they've got for squats especially strikes me as not particularly conservative.
That said, I was pretty harsh on my calorie intake, far more so than anyone I know that does body building or weight lifting to achieve big gains, for me it was more a way of maintaining and slowly improving musculature while losing weight than it was a bulking excercise so my results may not be of that much help I'm afraid.
Re: Stronglifts 5x5, any one using it?
I've used stronglifts back when it was free, it's a good routine I thought. I never paid any attention to the predictions etc, but I'd guess their a little optimistic, possibly due to the fact he's trying to sell it now. More than doubling your lifting weight in that timeframe is no mean feat and there's a lot of other factors involved. Stick with it though, you will make progress and feel better for it. Don't be disheartened if you don't quite match those numbers.
Don't forget to do some cardio too if you're trying to lose weight. Find something you enjoy on that front, your options are huge as the only real requirement is getting your heart going.
