    Ranger's Punishment fair?

So Rangers have now been accepted into Div 3 by the SFA after everyone voted against them into the Top tier, article here. Is this punishment right/consistant/ fair ? should the club as a whole be punished for the mistakes of one man?

Lets look at previous clubs who fell below the standards :

Hearts £30m debt, HMRC winding up orders and failure to pay players.

Motherwell in administration receive NO punishment and avoid relegation despite finishing bottom in 2003.

Dundee allowed back in SPL despite double admininistration record. Pacific shelf 595 ltd change their corporate structure in the 90s but nothing is mentioned about that.

Meanwhile, Rangers deducted 10 points, kicked out of spl and europe, lose their whole team, fined and that's still not enough punishment

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

It is the best thing for them.

It is also a good message to send out to the rest of the SPL clubs that nobody is 'to big to fail' and to work within their financial means.

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

but the question is in comparison to other scottish clubs that have also entered administration, is it consistant or is it because it was Rangers they should send a message to the rest of the cclubs which I feel is unfair

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

Why were the options Div 1 or Div 3? What happened to Div 2?

(not been following it that closely, just can't get away from it with a combination of BBC Scotland and Sky Sports News out here).

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

Rangers didnt just enter administration, they failed to come out of it, a new company has been set up with some of the old companiy's assets, therefore its a new team, and as a new team should, starts at the bottom.

Still I feel sympathy for them, years of tradition and rivalry wiped out so quickly.

I wonder if this will be Man Utd's fate when the Club goes over

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

Not really into football but the way i see it is that if Rangers were due the taxman millions that they didn't pay, someone should be locked up for it.

If any of us dodged taxes and didn't pay up, would we not be locked up?

Also it might make teams realise that paying some fool £80k a week to kick a ball about isn't ok anymore.

Its reasons like this why there is such a big money crisis.

One good thing is it should hopefully stop all this Rangers / Celtic nonsence.

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

i'm not into sport myself, but can't avoid people talking about it all bloody day

as far as i'm concerned, rangers went bust and ceased to exist. it's a new club so they should start as a new club. they shouldn't even be allowed to use the rangers name. whilst the court case isn't over, it seems they broke a lot of laws relating to taxation, screwed the country out of taxes, and owed other people a lot of money they couldn't repay, so why should they get to avoid all of that and keep trading as normal? no other company would be allowed to do it

the players should also be freed from contracts as free agents, but i understand most of them are trying to get out of playing anyway

fair play, football clubs shouldn't have special treatment. Just like when Woolworths went down a few years ago, it was a shame, the tradition and name, but if you go bankrupt you can't expect the tax payers to bail you out

    Re: Ranger's Punishment fair?

It's great that Rangers are starting in division 3. It means Stranraer got promoted! Result!

Back in the real world, this isn't THE Rangers that are in division 3, it's NEW Rangers. New club, start at the bottom, same as what happened with Airdrie United. And didn't Gretna get demoted into division 3 for going bust?

It was the right decision from a moral point of view. Financially, Scottish football is going to suffer and the Premier league is going to be absolutely crap (or crapper depending on your point of view) for the next three years at least. Who's going to win this year? Celtic. The next? Celtic. And the one after that? Yawwwwwnnn...

As opposed to Old Firm , Old firm and Old... yaaawwwwnnnnnnn

It will be interesting to see if points end up being more evenly distributed. Instead of two teams way ahead, there will only be one, giving more possible wins to the other teams. Perhaps.

Yes, I'm curious to see how it develops, and if parallels are drawn between this and the Rangers case.

In other news, with Rangers in the 2nd Div now, I'm torn between Dunfermline (where I was born) and Rangers (who my nephew plays for).
