    Best Fitness Program?

I'm looking to get myself back into shape but my normal go to exercises have been sort of shut down. When I was in England I'd run cross country but in Gibraltar that doesn't exist. Too small, and all streets with a fair amount of traffic and lots of fumes.

Basketball is also a none starter since, for some unknown reason, the men's league is apparently falling apart and they're focusing on children's development.

Fencing is also not an option since the only club around here is on the army base and not open to the public.

So, I've been looking at various DVD fitness programs. Things like the P90X routines etc. Either that, or a non-DVD pre-made routine which I can follow.

Does anyone have any recommendations/reviews/opinions on any of these or an alternate?

I'm not a fan of gyms, and despite efforts to try to encourage some friends to participate I expect I'll be doing this alone.

If you're looking at short duration, high intensity stuff like P90x, give crossfit a look. Done a couple of sessions with a mate who loves it and it's a proper beasting, I can vouch for that.

Keep looking on the sport front though always found sport to be easier to stick with than any regime.

Rowing or swimming, both should be possible... being surrounded by water , and are great for all round fitness

Good call Monkey, didn't think of that, running on sand is a great workout too.

    Re: Best Fitness Program?

Rowing I would love but the buying my own gear is prohibitive in terms of cost and the clubs here have long waiting lists.

Swimming is okay in the summer, but in the winter the sea can get rough.

Your right, it can be expensive.
Back when I was rowing we would buy our boats from the local private schools and other clubs for next to nothing, is this something you could do?

    Re: Best Fitness Program?

kayak over to Africa and back. That will be a workout and a half!

cycling in Spain would be goodly, but I guess you don't want to keep on getting into border crossings just for a workout.

    climbing?

    Re: Best Fitness Program?

I haven't looked for second hand gear, but knowing Gib I expect it still wouldn't be cheap. I'll take a look though.
Does anyone make use or know of any pre-made body weight routines?

The Insanity DVDs are not bad. Made by same people as P90X. I've done the 60 day programme and its good for keeping you fit. No equipment needed (apart from a DVD player and TV)

    Re: Best Fitness Program?

I would have a look on utube as there are tons of programmes on there. If you google spartan workout for one that will give you challenging a routine to follow at home.
If you can get your hands on some kettle bells that opens up a multitude of options-IMHO they work really well and are worth a small investment.
