Anyone recommend a fitness tracker like the Jawbone or the likes to track distance ran?
Looking to get fitter but would like to monitor distance ran as I cover 3 games of football a week. Maybe take up cycling more often.
The Fitbit Surge looks OK - but comes out next year - has GPS.
I've been using a Fitbit One for a while and it is a good motivator, but without GPS, not an at all accurate measurer.
But, after reading tons of posts regarding false readings from wrist worn trackers, I reckon that my belt worn tracker gives fewer false readings.
I hate to link to the Daily Hate but, this is what the professionals use:

Fitbit isn't that great, the gf and I both have a flex, my first one broke after 6 weeks (refused to charge) the bracelet band thing wears out after about 3 months, the knock off replacement ones are cheap enough I guess, but the official one should have better build quality.
I'm looking forward to the Microsoft Band coming out in the UK, whilst the heartrate will never be as accurate as a waist band, the other sensors more than make up for it!

Depends on your budget. I use a Garmin 910XT. I'd quite like an 920XT (just released) but not sure it's worth the upgrade cost.
Muse ,the Brain Sensing Headband is the best fitness tracker center known to me so far.. Muse uses sensors to detect and measure your brain signals from outside your body the same way a heart monitor measures your heart rate. All in all, it is an interesting device and it does work to help you calm down or reduce stress levels and improve focus. I personally suggest you all to try this at least once as it is best for fitness.
Fitbit Charge HR comes out soon, most reviews I've read are positive (what the force should of been) and the heart rate monitor only seems to be 2-4 beats out from expensive polar chest straps.
It's the one I've been waiting for as I don't walk very far each day as I cycle and I do a lot of other exercise so a HRM I don't have to strap to me every time, yes please!

I'm seriously considering the Surge, going to try to check it out when I'm in the States in a couple of weeks and might end up picking one up if I'm happy with the build quality. Fitbit support has been pretty good for me - granted the clip on my One ain't great quality but they've replaced it twice (last time well out of warranty too) and I've heard tell of them sending out replacement units when a user has accidentally put theirs through the washer etc.
I'm interested in the Up3 (Jawbone) and FitBit Charge HR. Also the new Withings smart watch (which looks plain and analogue) looks kinda smart too!
I'm interested in this tech whats put me off so far is that they dont seem to be that accurate and what do you do with the raw information, ive walked 10,000 steps but how do this relate to my blitz attack etc..
DCRainmaker.com does some very good reviews on fitness bands (and other stuff )
He just put up the review of the new FitBit Surge: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/01/f...th-review.html
Both the Surge & Charge HR are now on preorder on fitbit/amazon with 1-2 week estimated dispatch, I think I'm going to pickup the Charge HR as I don't do much steps (cycle everywhere) but I do want the 24/7 HRM (even if it is a bit off during exercise).

My One went on a washing machine adventure a few weeks ago. I thought that it had survived, but battery life is now only about 5 days - away from home at moment, forgot proprietary charger, might as well put my feet up.
Fitbit customer support thought they were being helpful telling me to put my One in dried rice, even though I said my One was working, but all I was wanting from them was reassurance that if I got a Surge, then it would will with my Note 2 - took 3 emails!
Love what I'm reading in Surge reviews, but price is too high for me.
Caved and bought a 920XT for my Ironman on Sunday. Lovely bit of kit. Still playing, but it seems to encompass all of the standard fitness metrics pedometer etc in addition to the Swim/Bike/Run etc stuff. Battery time seems much better too.
Just remember that too much exercise can (and usually is) be more dangerous than none at all.
Garmin Vivoactive is out in a couple weeks - Looking like it may be good

Still haven't got one. As I have Apple Kit, the Apple Watch was an interest. However buying first gen kit is a bit risky. I'll probably still wait. If I did plunge for one, it still would be the FitBit Charge HR at the moment.
The Microsoft Band looks great and has a load of sensors in it, but its still 1st Gen public release. I think as they have done with the Surface, it will be refined and be better in its second/third revision.
I managed to lose my One in a drunken getting-phone-out-of-pocket incident, so I now have a Surge. I'd always been happy with the One and the Fitbit service so I figured it was worth a shot. Observations:
The HRM isn't as far out as some seem to be suggesting. I still wear my Polar strap when I go for a run, and my results are usually within 2-3bpm of each other. I find it more convenient to track my heart rate on my wrist while running than trying to navigate my mobile.
The GPS is *slow* to lock. Really slow. Once lock is obtained it's not too bad, but less accurate than the GPS in my Galaxy S4.
Battery life: without GPS I see 4-5 days. If I've been running for an hour I pretty much put it on to recharge while I shower.
No real other issues, though I do find that after about 10 days I have to switch wrists as I have a mild reaction on my skin - I'm putting this down to it holding a small amount of sweat close to the skin.
I'm not using it for SMS notifications and the like because... I'm not really bothered with that functionality.
